Theodore Smith

Theodore Smith is an adventurous freelance photographer based in beautiful Muskoka, Ontario, Canada.  He focuses his lenses on people enjoying outdoor pursuits, wildlife and wildlife research from all angles from high in the sky (aerial images) to under the water and everything between. He can often he can be seen crawling on the ground or wading through marshes in order to get the shot.  His philosophy is summed up in a quote by former NGS photographer Bianca Lavies, “I am often cold or wet or tired, but I am always happy.”

Theodore’s images have appeared on the pages and covers of the most popular outdoor magazines in North America including: Field & Stream, Outdoor Canada, Outdoor Life, Canadian Geographic, Ontario Out of Doors, Sentier CHASSE-PÊCHE, Cottage Life, Nature Canada, ON Nature, Wildfowl and both of Ducks Unlimited’s magazines in Canada and the U.S.A.  His famous picture of a pair of kissing moose was featured in the 2008 Great Ontario Outdoor Adventure Calendar and he had several images in the 2009 and 2010 calendars. Theodore recently had the unique opportunity and pleasure of photographing Robert Bateman, one of the world's greatest wildlife artists, for the Canadian Wildlife Federation.

Theodore was honoured with having three images published in Ontario – Seasons of Discovery, a book featuring the imagery of some of the finest professional photographers in Ontario. Theodore is a member of Canon Professional Services.  He holds an honours kinesiology degree from Wilfrid Laurier University and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Western Ontario.  He resides with his wife, Cara, and their three young children along with a black lab named Shadow.
